Day 10 (Barcelona) (Al’s birthday):
Woke up at 9:00 AM and went downstairs for breakfast. Jeffrey (Al’s cousin who is working in London) came to Barcelona and met us at the room after breakfast along with Hannah. Since the kids were hungry, we decided to go out and grab a quick lunch down the street at a “sandwich shop”. After lunch we walked around a little bit since we has some time to kill. We then went back to the room to get ready for the day and went downstairs to the hotel lobby at 1:45 PM to meet our driver and tour guide. The guide was really good and showed us a lot of Barcelona, including the Picasso museum, the oldest “nut” store in Barcelona (great dates) and the highlight of the trip Sangrada Familia.

This church was amazing, especially went we went inside to see all of the colors shine through the stained glass windows.

We walked around for awhile and it was very impressive to see the architecture and the fact that the church is still being built.
Our guide also told us about the story of the Caganer or “Pooping Man”. The Caganer is a regular feature of nativity scenes in Catalunya where he is believed to have started to appear around the early 18th century. On the way home from the tour, there was a strike happening on our street so the driver had to let us out down the road, but we got back to the room around 6:30 PM. Waiting in the room for us was a bottle of Cordinui Champagne and two cakes for Al’s birthday that the hotel sent up. We sampled all the items and then left the room at 7:15 PM and took a cab to go see the Magic Fountains. There were many people there listening and watching the synchronized dancing fountains. We hung out there for a while and then grabbed a cab to the Elysa Y Fred restaurant where Hannah’s roommate joined us for Tapas. We finished up dinner and got back to the room at 11 PM.
